How to Tie the 10 Most Useful Knots


Double overhand knot

Double Overhand Knot - Simplest of the entire knot that with secure loop in rope. Easy to tie and Difficult to undo after loaded. This Overhand knot will be strong if the working rope lies above rope end.

Double figure-of-eight knot

A Common knot for rope access and mountaineering; it’s Stronger as well easy to undo when compared to double overhand knot.
When tested it was figured that this knot retained 66% to 77% of rope’s full Strength.

Double figure-of-nine knot

Used Common in Rope access specifically to secure anchor, where undoing the knot must be simple. This knotting method is even simpler than double figure of eight knot.
It’s strong when the loaded end of the rope lies beneath the loose end at the knot.
At testing it had the wide test values, i.e. ranging from 68% to 84% of rope full strength.

Double figure-of-ten knot

Commonly used at industries, sports etc; this knot is bit strong than double finger of nine; is stronger if loaded end lies beneath loose end.

Double figure-of-eight on the bight

Referred as Bunny knot, Very Useful Since it creates 2 loop that may equalize anchors. Used in Industry & caving etc, where the load is secured using rope via two anchors.

At test these rope knot retained 61% & 77% of rope full strength.

Bowline

A Common type of knot, quicker to tie & simple to undo; Used for tying large anchor in sailing or used for other purpose.  It is unique of its kind; it can be untied easily even large force applied.
When tested this knot had great strength variation with diff rope, 55% to 74%.

Alpine butterfly

Commonly used in industry for the purpose of mid-rope belay, or to isolate damage portion of rope.
This knot is used to create the loop in the mid of rope, that accept loading at any orientation without deform.

At test, it had retained rope strength in between 61% - 72%.

Barrel knot

Used in Cow’s tail; can be tied even at little tension, though clove hitch is better.
It has finest energy absorbing ability, and gives lowest impact forces at knotted cow tails dynamic test.
In Static test the breaking strength was found high.

Double fisherman’s

Used to join 2 rope end either for the propose to extend a rope or for rope sling creation.
Very difficult to untie when it is loaded heavily.

Clove hitch

Commonly utilized to secure rope to post or bar; loop Grips the anchors tightly. This knot can be tied even while the rope is loaded.
